THE PROCESS

When you are looking for a truly unique and personal heirloom work of art for yourself or to give as a jaw dropping gift, a commissioned piece is the way to go. Whether you are commissioning a portrait of your child, a CEO, a priceless collector car or a mural incorporating all three, the process is the same and surprisingly simple and fun. Works on paper start at $850 and works on canvas start at $9,500.

Step 1 — Get on the list. Reserve your spot on Mark’s Portrait List with $500 hold fee. This fee secures your place in line and will be credited to the final payment once your commission is completed. Many people also give this as gift and an artful gift certificate is available for that purpose. Please note that this fee is non-refundable. Click here to reserve your spot on the list.

Step 2 — Talk details. When Mark gets to your spot on his list, he will reach out to work with you on the details like size, subject matter, background preferences, budget, framing etc. Final pricing be determined at this point.

Step 3 — Smile! Unlike portrait artists of yesteryear, you no longer have to sit for your portraits. Instead, Mark works from photos. Most clients already have photos that they feel capture the subject matter in the way they love, but Mark is also available to take photos as needed. Photos you may have on your computer or your phone are generally more relaxed or candid and lend themselves very well to Mark’s style of portaiture.

Step 4 — Concept Sketch. Once Mark has all the information and a photo or photos to work from, he will start working his magic and create a full color concept sketch on paper. If you are commissioning a work on paper, this is the final step in the process. If you are commissioning a larger work on canvas, this paper sketch is used so that you can review and revise as needed until it is exactly as you wish Mark to paint it.

Step 5 — Painting. After the concept sketch is approved and 50% deposit is received, Mark begins the final piece. This can take 2 weeks to two months depending on the size and complexity of the piece. When Mark has completed the work, he will send photos for approval or revisions if needed.

Step 6 — Unveiling.
Once the painting is finalized, finally payment is due and the painting is ready for pick up or shipment to its forever home for unveiling and a lifetime of viewing pleasure
