Archival Sketch

While he is known for his large painted portraits, Mark also does smaller works on paper. Whether you want to gift a small work on paper or gift something representative of a larger upcoming commission, this is the option for you. One of the initial steps Mark takes while creating a commissioned portrait painting is to create a full color archival sketch on paper of the portrait concept. He creates these sketches after receiving reference photos and discussing specific composition parameters with his client. These sketches are works of art in and of themselves suitable for framing.

Many clients purchase this option and end there. Others choose this option when giving a larger portrait painting as it allows the lucky recipient to be involved in the portrait process thereafter yet still allows the recipient to unwrap a beautiful and thoughtful gift that gives a visual of what’s to come. If a larger painting is desired, the cost of the Archival Sketch will be deducted from the final cost of the portrait painting and a spot on Mark’s 2019 Limited Portrait List is guaranteed. Archival sketches are unframed and dimensions vary but do not exceed 11” x 14”.
